Developing “Novel” Ideas

Although I have not been writing creatively as much as I used to, I have been busy with the world building and characterization side of the writing process. Three ideas (different from the original three I mentioned in another blog post) are simmering in my brain and on various pieces of paper that I have scattered around my dorm room. Especially with these stories, I have been making a conscious effort to include more of a range of characters with different ethnic backgrounds, sexualities, mental disabilities, etc. For this particular blog post, I thought I would share a little bit of my process in developing these “novel” ideas!

Review: Escape from Aleppo [N.H. Senzai]

*I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review*

N.H. Senzai’s newest novel, Escape from Aleppo (officially released on January 2, 2018), demonstrates the power of storytelling and the importance of family, history, and culture, all while creating a story that makes the topic of Syria approachable to both young and older readers. Bookster Designs

Hi readers!

If you’ve been following my bookstagram (@lyrical.reads), then you’ve probably heard the name “Bookster Designs” at least once. If you haven’t, then I’ll tell you that Bookster Designs is my new Etsy shop! I’ve always enjoyed design and photography, so I put both together to create my bookmark store (hopefully I may be able to expand to include more products😉)! The unique thing about Bookster Designs is that all of the background photos of the bookmarks were taken by me!

I was especially inspired by Catherine, who is the owner of Hey Atlas Creative, and the way she runs her business *nudge* go follow her bookstagram to get updates! I came up with the name “Bookster Designs” because of @thebibliotheque and her invention of the word “bookster” (and it’s corresponding hashtag). I was thinking of potential shop names, and bookster just stuck with me! I added the “designs” part in order to keep my options open if I ever want to venture into designing prints! (my first 2018 New Years Resolution?)

I’ve also announced that I’m officially opening on Black Friday! (time tba, but maybe around 10 EST? Comment below to suggest a time!) I’m really excited to be offering FREE domestic shipping, and international shipping is relatively inexpensive since the bookmarks are mailed in a regular letter envelope! Because it is Black Friday–and you can’t have Black Friday without a sale–I will give a 10% discount code to use from Friday to Cyber Monday if you share Bookster Design’s opening! It can be through your Instagram stories or any online platform (make sure to link me to the announcement)!

Now for the super fun part😏…

Here’s a sneak peek at some of the bookmarks that will be stocked on Black Friday!

Nikolai Inspired Bookmark (from the Grisha Trilogy – Leigh Bardugo)

The first reveal is a Nikolai inspired bookmark! Perfect timing, since Leigh Bardugo recently announced that she’s writing King of Scars! The bookmark features a classic Nikolai line from Siege & Storm, the second book in the Grisha Trilogy.

Bookmark Inspired by the Infernal Devices (Cassandra Clare)

If you’re going to open a bookmark shop, then of course you’ve got to have a bookmark with a book quote😉. That’s where Cassandra Clare’s Infernal Devices steps in…

Ginny Inspired Bookmark (from the Harry Potter series – JK Rowling)

I don’t think Bookster Designs would be complete if I didn’t create at least one Harry Potter inspired bookmark! I’ll tell you that there are three stocked for the grand opening! The quotes featured are by some of the strongest ladies in the series🤗!

I’m so excited that Bookster Designs is almost ready to be officially open!! Check out @lyrical.reads for updates!

Loveofboooks [Sweden]

Hi readers! It’s been quite a long time since I’ve posted, but then again, September was a hectic month full of new experiences. I had to settle into a new routine, a new school, and a new living situation. So unfortunately, I missed posting for the Around the World feature for September, BUT, luckily I hadn’t lined anyone up for October, so I will highlight Emma’s (@loveofboooks) gorgeous account today! As always, I’ve asked five questions ranging from the start of one’s bookstagram to the inspiration behind the photos! Continue reading “Loveofboooks [Sweden]”

In Which I Totally Regret Not Utilizing the Library

ahem *delicately coughs into microphone* Well. Here I am with a ~unusual~ sort of blog post. Now, I don’t think I’d be banging my head (mentally) against a table as hard as I am if I wasn’t so close to my town’s library. And trust me, I am very close to the library. As in “I can actually see the library from my bedroom window” close.
