Humility: A Perspective

With Book 1 soon to be in print…

I was pondering today, the image of our humble Savior who rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. The voice of the Spirit came to me, and said, “See the humility of Jesus? Is not ‘humility’ simply a call to be the person that God made you to be? If you try to be more, it is vanity and pride. If you try to be less, you have turned up your nose at God‘s beautiful creation.”

And so, with all humility, we are called to listen to our quiet inner voice, and to follow where God leads us to go, and to be all that God made us to be—no more and no less.

Now, I apply this to my own life, and to who it is that God is calling me to be. I am given this joyful mission of creating works of poetry, story and song that retell the beautiful messages of scripture. Our world is hungry for connection to its roots, for knowing what is true, and for bearing good fruit. It is for this reason that I share what I do.

I am called to be good in my mission and to be present as God teaches my heart every day. Again, I am called to be ‘good’ in the work that I do. I am not called to be great, for only God is great. And God will use my good, and I know that my voice, my writing, and my illustrations will all be good enough for him. I need only to follow his voice and to walk in his way.
