Readiness
Are you ready?
Are you really, truly ready?
My dad was ready. He said to Fr. Andrew at his blessed anointing, “I am as ready as I can ever be.”
He added, “This is the greatest day of my life.” Yes, my dad was ready.
Recently, when attending weekday mass in our church at St. Victoria, I purposely sat behind a woman who had that same spirit of readiness. She lived in a manner of being ready. Jesus knew that she was ready. Everyone knew that she was ready. Readiness permeated her being, and it joyfully pollinated everyone around her.
To be honest, readiness is not age-dependent. Jesus gathered the little children to himself. Readiness came to him with an open heart.
I recently visited my mom, and together we checked in on a friend in her residence. This woman is a faithful servant of Jesus, and she is truly ready. What a gift—that she has lived to a ripe old age, and that she is so very ready. She openly shares her readiness with others, with her family and friends, and even with strangers.
Being surrounded by such examples of readiness, I was inspired to write this song. For me, it is an invitation that comes from the heart of Jesus. For you, this voice may come from another name. No worries. Goodness and love by any name are of one and the same Source.
The Old Sun Road symbolizes a journey and a gift that waits for all who are ready.
